Research Team

Irene Rihuete Varea is a PhD candidate in Hispanic Studies at Brown University, where she also earned a Masters degree in Modern Culture and Media. She has a Masters degree in Film Studies from King's College London, and a double degree in Journalism and Film Studies from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. Her research interests include Latin American and Spanish cinemas, documentary theory, ecocriticism, animal studies, rural representations and theories of technology. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in Comparative Cinema, Revista de Estudios Hispánicos and Kamchatka: Revista de Análisis Cultural, among other publications. She is also a film programmer and cultural organizer, and has collaborated with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Institute for Studies on Latin American Arts (ISLAA). She has taught classes on environmental aesthetics, narratives of the self, media theory and avant-garde cinema.
