He has carried out research in the Warburg Institute and has been “Zurbaran fellow” in the Zurbaran Centre for the Study of Spanish and Latin American Art in Durham University (2019). In a broad sense, his research interests focus on the relationships between image and culture in different contexts. More specifically, he is interested in the uses of photographic images as identity markers and ideological tools, the study of new scopic regimes and contemporary iconoclasm. He is also interested in Baroque vanitas culture and its continuity in contemporary visual culture under the notion of neo-Baroque. He has recently delved into animal visual culture and explored the problems of authorship regarding images created or produced by animals or non-human species, and has also focused on the cultural representations of dinosaurs.
