Miguel Ángel Rolland holds a Degree in Journalism from the Complutense University of Madrid (1992). He received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture to study film in New York, and his cinematic work has received international recognition and has been awarded at international festivals. In 2005, he was nominated for a Goya Award in the category of Best Documentary for Aerosol. In 2016, he premiered his first feature-length documentary, Santa Fiesta. Among his other documentaries are A Kind of Tony (2023) and Dueto para tres voces (2018).
He has also devoted himself to narrative and journalistic writing. In 2024, he published his first novel, I8I. He has collaborated with numerous national and international media outlets, including eldiario.es, El País, El Mundo, and La Razón. He was the founder and director of the independent theater magazine Mutis, chief editor of Cuadernos de Jazz, and contributor to Serie B Underground Magazine. He also contributed to the second edition of the renowned jazz dictionary, The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz (2002).
Rolland also founded the professional documentary association DOCUS MADRID and curated the film and hip-hop series CULTURA URBANA at Documenta Madrid. In 2017, he co-founded the #Docimpacto alongside the agency Las Espigadoras, a role he combined with teaching workshops and advising projects related to crowd culture.
Between 2009 and 2013, he led various content and brand-based projects for the companies Multi Platform Content and Quiero Salvar el Mundo, working in marketing. He has also worked in freelance advertising for various production companies and formats such as events or online channels.
With anthological ambition, Santa Fiesta employs an observational mode in its showcase of traditional festivals held in Spain in which non-human animals are brutalized and humiliated, exposing a national geography of speciesist cruelty. The film is available on the Filmin platform:
